Welcome friends, family, strangers, and likeminded people to Fortu.Net, my blog for you. Feel free to comment.
dpreview.com is an excellent site for digital photography. For my use,
here is a page which describes how to correct images for the Canon IXUS 300 camera.
Looking for a zooming globe applet or flash, I accidentally discovered several interesting sites. NASA has a
Visible Earth project which provides images, animations and movies from a variety of photographic sources above The Earth and from several functional perspectives.
The
MODIS Satellite seems particularly interesting in so far as Oceanography is concerned. I found a lovely photograph of Phytoplanktom blooms in the Black Sea, plumes of sediment forming bright blue swirls. Interesting though it be, it seems to be a lower resolution of visualization than military satellites would demand. Let's see what else we can find for free.
The Shrinking Aral Sea (in fact a fresh-water lake) is a fine example of mismanagement of natural resources, in this case water. In the last thirty years, more than sixty percent of the lake has disappeared. A sequence of images can be found
here.
Another interesting environmental article describes how a
Red Tide Strands South African Rock Lobsters.
Check out the suspicious looking
Introduction to the Earth Science Enterprise. How cool would it be to work at one of these places? Earth Science sounds fascinating to me.
